We received word late yesterday that the quarterback (Dan Beatty) from Juniata Valley, our opponent for Saturday’s football game, broke his neck in their game this past Saturday. The doctor’s are currently monitoring his situation and feel it is too early to make a long-term prognosis on his condition. As you can imagine, this has really shaken up the team and their thoughts are far from the football field at this time. Because of this, they have asked to be released from their contract to play Williamson this Saturday. We have granted them that release and assured them that Dan’s health and the emotional state of their team is far more important that the game.
While we are disappointed that we will not be able to play, we applaud Juniata Valley for making the decision they did. The football team now will officially start their season next Saturday at home against Radford University in a 1:30 P.M. kick-off.
Please remember to keep Dan Beatty in your prayers. [close] |

Running backs Andrew Dash, Curtis Schofield and Kevin Fisher combined to rush for over 200 yards while QB Steven Powers threw 2 touchdown passes to WR Brian Zdun as Williamson rolled to a season opening win over Radford in a Seaboard Conference match-up. Five different players scored a touchdown as Williamson rolled up over 300 yards of total offense.
As impressive as the offense was, the defense was even more impressive as they held Radford to minus 1 total yards of offense in the first half. For the game the Mechanic defense allowed just 62 yards and held Radford to a total of just 3 first downs. Freshman linebacker Dave Wisely stared his collegiate career off in a big way as he had 6 tackles and an interception. Defensive end John Paul Conneen had 1.5 sacks to go with 3 tackles and 2 hurries. CB Shane Coyle also added an interception and 2 hurries.
The Mechanics jump way up the ladder on the competition scale this Saturday as they host NJCAA powerrhouse Alfred State College. The last 3 times the teams met (2003-05) Alfred outscored Williamson by a combined score of 154-20. Game action begins @ 1:00 P.M. [close] |

| Though not as bad as losses to Alfred State in the past, the Mechanics never were able to take advantage of the few scoring chances they had in losing for the 8th time in the 9 meetings between the 2 schools. A controversial TD catch in the 1st quarter and a 78 yard run in which both teams thought the play was dead didn’t help things for Williamson however Alfred was able to use its size and speed to come out with a 3-1 advantage in total yards. The Mechanics dropped to 1-1 on the year while Alfred raised its record to 2-1. [close] |

| Three big plays made all the difference as Valley Forge used a 66 yard run on their 1st play from scrimmage, a 59 yard punt return and a 50 yard TD run to defeat Williamson this past Saturday. Williamson trailed 20-0 but used an 8 play drive capped off by an 11 yard TD pass from Shane Coyle to Brian Zdun to pull to within 20-7 right before half. But that is as close as thing would get as Valley Forge’s defense held the Mechanics to just 34 rushing yards and registered 6 sacks. Aside from the 2 long runs, Williamson’s defense played a solid game as Matt Moccia had 9 tackles and 2 sacks, Gary Lazaro had 10 tackles and Perry Koliatsis had 9 tackles. [close] |
